How does franchising work?

Franchising is when one party, the franchisor (Unique Markets), provides a licensed privilege to another party, the franchisee (you), to do business under the franchisor's name. The franchisor offers assistance in organizing, training, merchandising, marketing, and managing in return for monetary consideration.

What attributes are you looking for in a franchise partner?

The ideal candidates are natural leaders, creative-thinkers, business-oriented, and community-driven. Hustle is in their DNA, they have a desire to create positive change within their city, they are passionate about design/art/culture, and they truly love helping others. Franchisees must embody the attitude that no job is too small or too big, and be very hands-on in all aspects of running the business.

Is it a full-time or part-time commitment?

While being a business owner is a pretty much a 24/7 role, running a Unique Markets franchise is only a part-time commitment.

How much money can I make?

The honest truth is that the profitability depends on each franchisee. Various factors impact your revenue including operating costs, financing terms, and most important, your ability to operate the business effectively.

Should I do this alone or get a partner?

We're not going to tell you how to lead your franchise. However, our founder, Sonja Rasula, did it on her own, and we think that this opportunity is great for solopreneurs. Especially considering you have all the help you could need and a sounding-board in us.

What are the royalty and marketing fees?

We charge a 10% royalty fee on net sales and a 6% monthly marketing fee which includes all social media strategy and execution, web presence, and PR efforts promoting your market by HQ.

How much is the franchising fee + what is the initial investment?

The initial franchising fee is $35,000, and the initial investment ranges from about $84,000 to $135,000.

What type of training will I receive from Unique HQ?

  • 5-day initial training session at our headquarters in Los Angeles.
  • Software programs training
  • On-the-job training at one of our pop-up events, and a 1-day post-event breakdown.

How soon can I expect to host my first market?

Expect to host your first market within 4 to 6 months of becoming a franchise owner. This includes finalizing paperwork, training, setting up the business, and then going into the proprietary production process. The standard schedule for the markets is 3 large-scale markets around Mother’s Day, summer, and holiday. We are looking to award franchisees by end-of-July 2019 to ensure they launch with the holiday market.

Do I have to get a location/office?

A Unique Markets franchise offers the flexibility for owners to operate from day-to-day out of a home office. If you can't work out of your home, we recommend looking for cost-conscious alternatives.

Will you award mutliple franchises in one city?

We will only award one franchise per city, as we want to ensure every one of our franchisees is successful and happy.
